Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen M. Murphy, 79, a resident on Auburn and formerly of Canton will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 10:00 am at the St. Mary's Church, Canton, with Rev. Douglas Lucia; celebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in the spring. Kathleen died on Friday, March 1, at the Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Friends may call at the O'Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Hwy 11; Canton on Thursday, from 4-7pm. Contributions in her memory may be made to, Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Hwy 11; Potsdam, New York 13676 or to St. Mary's Church, 66 Court Street; Canton, New York 13617.
Surviving Kathleen are her husband, Francis P. Murphy from Canton, now living in Auburn; five children; Cynthia M. Cahill and husband Andrew Seager of Rochester; Lawrence P. Murphy and wife Kathleen of Canton; Patricia L. McKenzie and husband Peter of Knoxville, TN; Vicky L. Murphy and husband Peter Wimmer of Canton and Colleen M. Kaulfuss and husband Stephen of Cadyville, NY; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving Kathleen are six siblings; Lynn Wood and wife Joyce of Hammond; Richard Wood and wife Ellen of Greely, CO; Elton Wood and wife Linda of Deltona, FL; Irene Burr and husband Wayne of Canton; Gertrude Graninger and husband Vickie of Iliff, CO and Margaret Cocquyt and husband John of Rochester.
She is predeceased by brothers, Gerald and Gordon Wood and by a sister Joyce Wood.
Kathleen was born, September 17, 1933 in Harrisville, New York, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Jennie (Weeks) Wood. She graduated from Harrisville Schools and from Canton ATC with a degree in Food Service Management. Kathleen married Francis Paul Murphy on April 21, 1956 at St. Francis' Church, Harrisville, NY with Rev. McCasland, Celebrating the maariage. Kathleen worked as food service Manager at St. Lawrence University from 1967 until her retirement in 1989.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, movies and spending time with family and friends. She retained her excellent memory, sharp mind, and positive attitude until the end.
