Graveside service for Janet Edrington-Bullis, 72, of Waterman Hill, Canton will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Crary Mills Cemetery, Crary Mills. There will be no calling hours. Janet passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

Janet is survived by her three daughters, Katherine Mastro-Brandy; Anna (Eric) Wright and Nellie (Jeremy) Lucas, all of Waterman Hill; by her beloved grandchildren; Gregory and Joseph Mastro; Sophia Wright and Parker and Isabelle Lucas, all of Waterman Hill; by a sister, Yvonne (Bruce) LaRose of Ogdensburg and by several nieces and nephews.

Janet is predeceased by her first husband, Don Edrington, and by her second husband Ira “Peter” Bullis, by a brother, Roswell Smith, Jr. and by a sister, Loretta Oosman.

Janet was born May 24, 1944 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Roswell and Nellie (Ames) Smith. Janet graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1962. Upon graduation, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, with her sister and Brother-in-law to seek employment. From 1962-1970, Janet worked as a stenographer for Time-Life Magazine, Hope Publishing and Bache and Company, a well-known brokerage firm in the Loop. On July 2, 1966, Janet married Don Allen Edrington at City Hall in Chicago. In 1970, the couple and their young daughter, Katherine moved to Osceola, Arkansas, Don’s birthplace; he lost his life in a drowning accident in December 1973.

Janet and Katherine returned to the North Country, settling in Pierrepont. On August 29, 1976, Janet married Ira “Peter” Bullis, William Brewer, Justice of the Peace officiated. Ira was a descendant of two pioneer families, the Bullis’s and the Crary’s. He was the great-grandson of George Lucien Crary, the Adirondack Poet and great-great grandson of John Wheaton Bullis. In 1984, Janet and Ira purchased the Bullis Homestead at the foot of Waterman Hill, in the Town of Canton. Ira passed away in February 2009.

Janet retired from SUNY Potsdam in 2006 after 24 years of service as a secretary. She was particularly happy to have worked in the Departments of Geology and Physics. Janet enjoyed taking courses in Art, History and Literature at Potsdam College. She was an avid reader and cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren.
