Leila D. (Bush) Hastings

On December 31st 2017 Leila D. Hastings passed away at her Morley home surrounded by her loving family and pets.  Many people knew her as "Lee" or "Julie" over her years as proprietor of Hastings Country Store, Ye Olde Gin Mill and Hastings Rental properties.

Prior to 1966 when she and husband Glenn started their businesses, she worked as a waitress at the Gran View in Ogdensburg for over 9 years. Before that she clerked at Pelkey's Store on the Morley-Canton Road and worked hard on a small farm on the Morley-Potsdam Road.  She professionally wallpapered in the early years of her nearly 70 year marriage. She, her husband and her maintenance man remodeled and rehabbed many houses in Morley.
She loved to bake and cook, sharing with neighbors and family on all kinds of occasions, both happy and sad. Homemade rolls and baked beans were her specialties.
She loved to shop, especially flea markets and antique shops.

She raised and is survived by 4 children Judy Hastings-Keith of Wanakena, Steve, Chris and wife Joanie Hastings of Morley and Nancy and Sai Bristol of Canton. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by one brother Robert and wife Joanne of Sarasota Florida and 2 sisters-in-law Mary Bush of Raleigh, North Carolina and Sally Bush of Ogdensburg, New York.

Leila was born in Rensselaer Falls, NY to Clark and Evelyn Hope Smithers Bush on November 7, 1928.  She married Glenn D. Hastings on March 6, 1947.  He predeceased her in December 2016, as did her parents and 7 siblings- Clark A., Elisabeth A., Anna B., Don H., Wayne G., Rodney A. and Ralph N. Bush.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and again on Friday, January 5 from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton. A funeral service will be held on Friday. January 5, 2018 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.oleary funeralservice.com.
