Our Staff

A Potsdam native and a 2003 graduate of Colton-Pierrepont Central School, Steven attended SUNY Canton and graduated in 2005 with his A.A.S. degree in Mortuary Science. Steven completed his apprenticeship with the Garner Funeral Service in Potsdam and became licensed in 2007. Steven joined the O’Leary Funeral Service staff in January of 2008. He enjoys outdoor activities, volunteering with Canton Fire and Rescue, and spending time with family and friends. Steven purchased the funeral home from Joe and Deb in April of 2014. Steven is a member of the St. Lawrence County Funeral Directors Association. Steven lives in Canton with his three dogs, Grace, Bailey and Daisy.

A Russell native and 1972 graduate of Knox Memorial High, Joe attended Canton ATC, graduating in 1975 with his Mortuary Science Degree. Joe completed a year-long apprenticeship with The Corbett Funeral Home in Rochester, New York, and became a licensed funeral director in 1976. He returned to Canton in 1977, joining the O’Leary Family in operating the funeral home. He and his wife Debra purchased the funeral home in 1985 following the death of Bill O’Leary, and continue to operate today. Joe, a member of the Canton Lions Club and the St. Lawrence County Funeral Directors Association, a past member of the Canton Zoning Board, resides at his Boyd Pond Home in Russell. He and his wife Debra have five children: Mike, Sarah, Susan, Tim, and Bryan.
