Margaret Carney Obituary

Margaret Ann “Peggy” McCarthy Carney passed away Friday, June 11, 2021 at Albany Medical Center. Peggy was born on November 4, 1929 to Joseph and Alice McCarthy of South Colton, N.Y. Peggy was pre deceased by her parents and siblings Joseph Jr “Junior”, Joyce Snyder, Florence Ward, Jerry McCarthy and two beloved Sons in Law Bruce Machold and George Khachadourian . Peggy was survived by her husband of 70 years Francis x. Carney of Hackensack N.J. whom she met during college while Frank was at Clarkson University as she attended Canton A.T.C. in Potsdam NY. Together they raised 7 children in Binghamton N.Y. Peggy was blessed to be survived by all her children: William Carney, Thomas (Linda) Carney, Susan (Phil) Dimmick, Mary Machold our parents’ full-time caregiver, Patrick (Paula) Carney, Ellen Khachadourian and Francis X. Carney Jr. Peggy’s grandchildren were a special source of pride for her including Brent and Dana Carney, Erin, Brian and Thomas (Molly) Carney, Timothy (Casie) and Shane O’Connor, Dylan and Nicole Carney, Nicholas, Luke (Margaret), Kristian and Ava Khachadourian and Marco and Mikayla Carney. Olivia and Delilah Carney of Atlanta Georgia and Patrick O’Connor of Lisle NY are Peggy’s great grandchildren. Cindy Whitman, Timothy O’Connor Sr, and Nancy Carney contributed greatly to our family and Peggy’s happiness as well as her sons and daughters in law; Linda, Phil, Bruce, Paula, and George who completed us. Peggy was often referred to as a special lady, a friend to all, one of a kind, a tough nut, always thinking of others, dedicated volunteer (including Hospice in its earliest days), life of the party, a real character and amazing wife and mother as ultimately family was her greatest joy. Peggy was a homemaker extraordinaire and dedicated to her husband and children. Peggy enjoyed traveling, dancing, her hometown Adirondack roots, helping others in need and a good laugh. Peggy was a Christian. Peggy had many friends and admirers and will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Family will appreciate any remembrances shared online as we lovingly surrender Mom to her Heavenly rewards. Remember the less fortunate, politeness matters, when the moment is at hand…drink it up, and don’t forget to pray reflect Peggy’s core values. Private arrangements will be held at a later date.
