Leota Lincoln Obituary

Leota Mary (Moore) Lincoln, 91, of Pierrepont, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2020 surrounded by family, at the home she and her husband built together in the early 1960s.  She is now square dancing in heaven with her beloved Harley.

Leota was born one of 7 children, to the late Howard and Katherine (Chase) Moore, on November 7, 1928 in Pierrepont, NY.  She attended the Selleck School and then Colton Pierrepont High School where she graduated valedictorian.  Immediately following graduation she married her childhood sweetheart and one true love, Harley K. Lincoln of Hermon, on July 21, 1947.  They were married 65 years.

Leota raised five children.  In 1950, she co-founded the South Pierrepont Pioneers 4-H Club.  She would lead this group for 13 years and was proud of the accomplishments of its members.  At the same time, Harley started a television repair company where Leota maintained the books and inventory for the business.

Leota had several passions; among them music, square dancing and birdwatching.  She and Harley cofounded the square dance group Skirts and Flirts and danced together for twenty five years.  She and her family were well known for being a musical family.  Leota attended her last concert this year at age 91.

Leota and her husband planned to travel in retirement, however, after their first trip decided that traveling wasn't much fun without their children.  Instead, they spent most of their time helping their children, build homes, garages and run businesses.  They were always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who had need.

Leota is survived by sisters Virginia Moore (Canton), and Dawn (Gary) Atkinson (Pierrepont), her 5 children; Wayne (Sara) Lincoln, (Pierrepont), Dale Burns (Reggie) (Pierrepont), Dean (Kimberly) Lincoln (Peru), Kevin (Joanne) Lincoln (Pierrepont), Pam (Joseph) Shaw (Canton).  Leota will be missed by her 20 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren all of whom she adored.  She will also be terribly missed by longtime friend and family member Mercy (Shawn) Spellacy, (Pierrepont), the second wife of her father, Howard Moore.

Leota was predeceased by her husband, Harley in 2012, and five of her siblings Reggie Moore, Lloyd Moore, June Chapin, Maxine Ricalton, Barbara Curran, brother in law Gary Atkinson, son in law Reggie Burns and her great grandson, Luke Burns.

At her request, there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are entrusted to O'Leary Funeral Service of Canton.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley; 6805 US Highway 11; Potsdam, New York 13676.
