Eileen Peters Obituary

Eileen M. Peters, 97, passed away on July 19, 2018, at the Maplewood Campus, where she had been a resident since August 2016.

Eileen was born on November 1, 1920, in Lisbon, New York, the daughter of Erastus and Mae (Goodison) Tracy. She graduated from Canton High School in 1937 and married Donald F. Dean in 1938. They had three children — James, Robert, and Elaine. Donald died in 1945 from injuries sustained during a WWII battle. Eileen later married Charles H. Peters, and they had one daughter, Leah (Peters) Tucker. Charles died in September 1996 after a long illness.

Over the years Eileen worked as a baker and cook at Canton Grammar School, Canton ATC and Gray Bowling Lanes. She was a terrific cook and baker and could whip up a meal in no time flat. Her doughnuts — eaten either fresh or frozen — were always the best! She worked as a clerk at the Noble Shoe Store for many years; and, after her retirement from Noble’s could tell you what brand and the size shoe of all the customers.

Eileen and Chuck were long-time members of bowling teams at Gray Lanes. She was a long-time member of the Ladies Home Bureau. She loved to sew and knit. All of her family has a heirloom Afghan that she knit over the years. During her 60s she and Chuck took up golf. She enjoyed getting out there and walking the course, and now and then kicking the ball just a bit closer to the hole or tossing it up over a big berm. Prior to moving to Maplewood, she resided at the Canton Highrise on Riverside Drive where she enjoyed watching NY Yankee baseball, reading, working cross-word puzzles, playing bingo and cards. She loved her family, and her apartment was covered with photos of kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She will be dearly missed by all her family.

Eileen is survived by her children James and Rita Dean, San Antonia, Texas; Robert and Sharon Dean, Canton, New York; Elaine (Dean) White, Canton, New York; and Leah (Peters) Tucker, Kansas City, Missouri. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 8 great- great grandchildren, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She was pre-deceased by her great grandchildren Hilary Phalon, Mathew Tucker, and Bethany Dean; also by her brothers Leon, Roger, and William Tracy; and sisters Mable (Tracy) Kenyon, Dorothy (Tracy) Burwell, and Inez (Tracy) Madill.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Canton.
