Debra “Debbie” P. Bennett, 64, of DeKalb Junction, died peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown where she had been a patient for a short time.
Debbie was born February 13, 1959 in Canton, a daughter of the late James and Muriel Patton. She graduated from Hermon-DeKalb Central School in 1977. On January 15, 1977, Debbie married the love of her life, Scott Richard Bennett in Russell. Debbie worked for several years at the Tri Delta Sorority in Canton. She and Scott lived above the old Canton Fire Station as Scott was caretaker and Debbie would assist with dispatching calls. She also had her own Day Care at one time and worked various other odd jobs throughout her life time.
Debbie loved camping in the summers and traveling to Florida with her family. She also enjoyed crafting and going to the casino. Her greatest joy the last 8 years has been loving and spoiling her grandson Jayce, whom she loved beyond words.
Debbie is survived by her husband of 46 years, Scott Bennett, two daughters, Liza (Dan) Aldous and Jamie Bennett (Cody Durham); two brothers John J. Patton and Arthur (Kim) Patton; two sisters, Cathryn (Neil) Thomas and Sandra (William) Russell; a grandson, Jayce Durham and granddaughter, Lyndsey Aldous (Kaitlyn Lucas) and a grandpup Jaxon. Along with several nieces and nephews.
Debbie was predeceased by her parents James and Muriel Patton.
Debbie suddenly fell ill in the spring of 2023 due to a rare and serious disorder called central nervous system vasculitis. She was a resident at Upstate Medical and later Carthage Rehab Center where she touched the lives of many of the staff and was well taken care of.
