Claude Burdick, 88, of Waddington passed away Wednesday, November 08, 2023 surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Claude was born February 21, 1935 at the family farm and sawmill in Bucks Bridge, NY to Ward and Loretta Burdick. He was a 1954 graduate of Potsdam High School. Claude married Barbara Wheeler in 1956.
Claude started his working career with GLF/Agway before returning to the family dairy farm in West Potsdam in 1961. He ran the dairy farm for 39 years, retiring in 2000. In addition to operating the dairy farm he was active in the community, especially with agricultural organizations serving on the boards of Northern Bulk Milk Coop, Agway, Allied Federated Coops and the Potsdam Central School board. In retirement he volunteered with the St. Lawrence Power and Equipment Museum in Madrid, NY.
After retirement Claude and Barbara moved to Brookview Drive in Waddington and spent a number of years as snowbirds in Florida.
Claude is survived by his wife, Barbara and children: Brian (Lisa) Burdick of Norwood, NY, Scott (Angel) Burdick of Chesapeake, VA, Pat Burdick and Terri Burdick of Canton, NY as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother Gale Burdick of Poland, NY and sisters Ellen Planty of Norwood, NY and Joyce Sill of Argyle, NY. Claude was predeceased by his daughter Debra Burdick and sister Barbara Day.
Arrangements for cremation are under the care of O’Leary Funeral Service of Canton, NY. Per his wishes there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley or Waddington Rescue Squad.
