Allan J. McDonald, 80, of Canton passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2018 at the Rome Hospital, he had been a resident of Colonial Park Rehabilitation Center of Rome, NY since February of 2018.
Al was born October 21, 1937 in Pyrites, the son of Leonard and Elizabeth (Roberts) McDonald. He attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Knox-Memorial Central in Russell. Al married Joan M. Coller on May 18, 1963 at St. Paul’s Church in Pyrites; she predeceased him on August 27, 2016. Al worked for E.J. Martin Beer Wholesale, Missert’s Beer Wholesale; was co-owner of the Junction Café and worked at SUNY Canton for the NYS Green Thumb Program.
Al enjoyed yard work, NY Yankee’s Baseball and SU Basketball, spending time with family and going out to dinner.
Al is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Foster and husband Ed of Canton; a grandson, Jordan Foster and significant other, Leslie Centola of Wilmington, NC; three sisters, Janet Coloton and husband Jack of DeKalb; Faye Foster and husband Mike of Hannawa and Margaret McDonald of Pyrites. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Al is predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Elizabeth and by brothers, John, Leonard Jr. and Fred McDonald.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton, where a funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Jerusalem Cemetery.
