Wilfred C. "Willie" Rowledge

Potsdam, New York

Wilfred "Willie" Charles Rowledge, 65, of Potsdam, passed away unexpectedly on February 25, 2025 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Willie was born August 11, 1959 in Ogdensburg, the son of the late William & Annette (Sauve) Rowledge. He graduated from Lisbon Central School in 1979, later attended SUNY Canton and also completed his apprenticeship training as an Electrician.

On June 6, 1981, Willie was united in marriage to his wife Nancy Dawley at Ss. Philip & James Church in Lisbon with Father Edward Wright officiating.

Willie worked on the family farm with his father and brother while also driving school bus for Lyle H. Flack Bus Lines Ltd. and later for First Student, transporting students at Lisbon Central School.  He also drove for Flack Tours making many charter runs for high school student's senior trips and many trips for the SUNY Canton hockey team.  For several years he also raised white tail deer in his Countryside Whitetail Deer Farm.

In 1987, he began his career at SUNY Canton working in the Custodial, Grounds, and Maintenance Departments retiring in 2015 as an Electrician.  In his younger days, Willie enjoyed hunting and fishing and in later years enjoyed riding his spyder, with him and Nancy participating in many charity rides making new friends along the way.  His most cherished time was spent as Papa to his grandchildren attending many of their sporting events and activities.

Willie is survived by his wife, Nancy; two daughters Jamie (Steven) Murray, Ogdensburg, and Nicole (Jeffrey) Wilson, DeKalb; five grandchildren, Makayla (Collin) Peacock, Madison Hyde, Steven Murray, Jeramiah Wilson, and Jackson Wilson; two step grandsons, Aidan (Kara Ashlaw) Murray, and Bryson Murray; one great grandson, Carson Peacock; one brother, Allen (Melody) Rowledge, Massena.  He is survived by two nephews, Allen Rowledge, Massena, and Jeffrey Rowledge, Manhatten, and two nieces, Lynn (Danny) Coleman, and Tammy Boggs both Darlington, SC, in addition to great nephews, nieces, and cousins.  He is also survived by his mother in-law, Ella Dawley, Ogdensburg, and brother and sister in-laws Michael (Charlene) Dawley, Ogdensburg, Joan (Joseph) Krywanczyk, Chazy, and Cheryl (William) Collier, Ogdensburg.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Vernon "Joe" Dawley, sister and brother in-law Jeanne (Richard) McMillen, sister in-law Margo Rowledge, nephew Michael McMillen, and niece and her husband, Dawn (Charles) Kelly.

A Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton. Calling hours will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the spring in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery, Canton.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center, 5 Lyon Place, Ogdensburg, NY.
