Vernon K. "Brownie" Brown

Vernon K. "Brownie" Brown Jr., 78, of West Pierrepont died unexpectedly at his home, on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Brownie was born August 25, 1940 in Potsdam, son of the late Vernon K. and Viola (Jessmer) Brown. He graduated in 1958 from Canton Central School and began a bricklayer's apprenticeship. Following the apprenticeship, he became a member of the Bricklayer's Local Union 81, working for various companies including Fisher & Rexford, L&H, William F. Morley, Danko Construction, Newton, Perfetto & Whalen and Brown & Story. Brownie retired from the union in 1983 and began employment as a custodian for the Canton Central School District, retiring in 2003. On March 7, 1970, he married Jane Irish in Hannawa Falls.

Brownie was a "Breakfast Club" member of the Hide A Way in Colton, The Meadow's in Canton, and The Ocean View Café in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was a past member of the Rainbow Hunting Club and was an avid NY Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan.

Brownie will be remembered for his quiet demeanor, his smile, and his love of a good practical joke.

Brownie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane Brown of West Pierrepont, a son, Steven (Colleen) Brown of Elverson, PA; a sister, Patricia Mace of Canton, his special dog, Amos and by many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by a daughter, JoAnn Brown.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton followed by a funeral service at 4:00 pm.

Reception to follow in the Rushton Room at Best Western at 5:00 pm.
