Tad R. Holmes

Graveside service for Tad R. Holmes, 81, of Canton, will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Pleasant Mound Cemetery, Clare, with Lay Minister Martha Helmer, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Tad died on Monday, July 21, 2014 at home, surrounded by family, while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
Tad is survived by a son, Walter Holmes and wife Linda of Heuvelton; four daughters; Evelyn Homes and companion John Smith of Gouverneur; Tina Holmes of Canton; Tamako Laraby and husband Richard of Russell and Tasha Gilbo and husband Richard of Canton. Also surviving are brothers, Tex, Bernard and Terry all of Canton and sisters, Colleen Murdock of Canton and Catherine Goldie of Heuvelton; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Tad is predeceased by two brothers, a sister and by a grandson, Ridge Thorbahn.
Tad was born, June 25, 1933 in Canton, the son of the late Walter and Evelyn Holmes. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. On September 28, 1957, he married Lettie Marie Chambers and the Canton United Methodist Church. Lettie predeceased him September 4, 2012. Tad was a self-employed electrician as well as working as an electrician for SUNY Canton, retiring after 20 plus year. His retirement years were spent with family and keeping Pat company at Star Route Auto Service.
