Sue E. (Stevens) Smith

Sue E. Smith, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Ogdensburg, where she had been a resident since 2019.

Calling hours will be held at O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Canton.

Sue was born September 18, 1945 in Gouverneur, to the late Irwin and Laurenstein (Bigelow) Stevens.

Sue loved to sing and as a teenager she sang in a band at local establishments. She worked as a waitress at McCarthy's Restaurant. She was a talented seamstress sewing many square-dancing dresses and Halloween costumes. She also reupholstered furniture and could repair most any sewing machine.

Sue was a fun-loving person who never shied away from a good game of cards or Bingo. She was a force to be reckoned with once her game-face was on.

Sue is survived by her three children: Ellen Lambert of Gouverneur, Clifford Smith Jr. of Copenhagen, and Craig Smith (Judy Phillips) of Canton; grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Miranda Smith, Kristen Smith, DJ Johnson, Marcus Johnson, Elizabeth Smith, Jonny Smith, and Craig Smith Jr., and one great-grandson Patrick.

In addition to her parents, Irwin and Laurenstein, Sue was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Smith Sr.; all of her siblings, Arthur Stevens, Hazel McDonald, Jimmy Stevens, Lucy Smith, Donald Stevens, and Dexter Stevens; and a son-in-law, Kenneth K. Lambert.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sue's memory may be made to St. Joseph's Nursing Home, 950 Linden Street, Ogdensburg, New York 13669.
