Scott E Niles, Jr, 44, passed away unexpectedly, after a short illness, on September 13, 2026 at Rochester Regional Hospital in Potsdam NY.From the day he was born, October 9, 1981, in A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, Scott or Scotty had a wanderlust. He was born with the birth defect, spina bifida, and was transferred to Strong Memorial hospital for treatment of the birth defect. He returned to the hospital many times, over the years, to attend the spina bifida clinic and have specialized surgeries performed.From a young age Scotty loved sports and loved to hit first, wiffle balls and then baseballs with the bat and also playing catch with a baseball or football, especially with his mom. That passion grew into the love of baseball and the following of the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers. For football there was the Syracuse Orange and the New York Giants. And the New York Rangers was the hockey team of choice. Watching games on TV and the family even traveled to Toronto and Montreal to watch the Yankees play. His other favorite sport, was wrestling. He joined many chat boards and followed all the major wrestling and wrestlers and expressed his opinions of all matters wrestling!Scott was a member of Patreon where he joined an online community of wrestling fans to talk about his favorite wrestlers.He graduated Canton Central in 2000 and went on to get his BA in Business and Economics at SUNY Potsdam in 2006. He was a role model for students at all educational levels teaching them about disabilities and what it means. He participated in the required PE classes in high school and college, showing students, he could line dance, square dance, play floor hockey and more. And he excelled in it.Scotty had a love for computers and gadgets. Teaching himself how to use programs, playing the latest version of computerized games on the computer, kindle and on gaming systems. He loved to read and do word searches at his leisure. He enjoyed family dinners on Sunday and spending holidays with the whole immediate family.He is survived by his parents, Scott and Cynthia (Sharlow) Niles, and sister Shannon (Niles) Ayrassian and Brother-in-law Jeremiah Ayrassian, Nephew Joshua Ayrassian and Niece Madison Ayrassian. Further survived by Uncles Glen and Carl Niles and Aunt Edna (Niles) Dana & Uncle Richard Dana, Uncle Mark Niles and significant other Paula Allen. Along with his maternal Grandmother, Rosamond Sharlow, Uncles Donald Sharlow and Alan Sharlow, Aunt Eva (Sharlow) Farrell and husband Uncle James Farrell and Cousin James T Farrell. And many other cousins and relatives.Scotty is predeceased by his paternal Grandparents Jack Hall and E Carol (Niles) Hall; maternal Grandfather Donald W Sharlow; Uncles Gary and Terry Niles.He is loved by many and will be missed by all.Calling hours will be Sunday, September 20th at O’Leary Funeral Home, just outside Canton from 2pm to 4pm and again 6pm to 8pm. The Funeral will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton on Monday, September 21 at 11am. Internment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Canton.Donations may be made in his name to Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad or West Potsdam Fire Department.
