Roger Ernest Burcume

Roger Ernest Burcume, 72, of Canton, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Plattsburgh, where he had been a patient for a short time.

Roger was born on May 18, 1952, in Ogdensburg, New York, a son of the late David and Isabelle (Brabaw) Burcume. He attended Canton High School and later received his GED while serving in the National Guard.

On December 23, 1970, Roger married Rhonda Flint. Together they had three children, Vikki, Jeff, and Sara. In his younger years, Roger worked at a potato farm, a moving and storage company, and was a meat cutter. Mostly, Roger spent time driving tractor trailer and dispatching for Adirondack Asphalt. In springtime, he could be found cutting wood for winter.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an FFA member while in school.

Roger's most cherished time was spent with his children and grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Rhonda; children Vikki Burcume, Jeffrey Burcume (Marcy Adams), and Sara Amaral; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four siblings, Linda Symonds, Nathaleen Lanning, Robert Burcume, and Teresa Todd, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents David and Isabelle, Roger was predeceased by three siblings, James Cloe, John Burcume, and Leona DeLavergne.

Calling hours for Roger will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 4:00 pm till 6:00 pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton. A graveside service in St. Mary's Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
