Rick L. Bartlett

Mass of Christian Burial for Rick L. Bartlett, 53, of Canton will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, with Rev. Douglas J. Lucia, celebrating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Rick passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 2-4 pm and from 6-8 pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Knights of Columbus Sarto Council #1059; 30 Miner Street; Canton, New York 13617.

Rick is survived by his wife Sandra Bartlett of Canton; by a son, Josh Jackson-Bartlett of Canton; by his mother, Vivian Fields of San Jose, CA; by step-children, Roger Miller and companion Lori Thompson of Colton; and Crystal Miller-Brayman and husband Duane of Munnsville, NY. Also surviving are a brother, Jamie Bartlett of Albany; a sister Kelly Sharpe and husband Steve of San Jose, CA and his grandchildren, great-grandchild, nieces and nephews.

Rick was predeceased by his father Melvin Bartlett and by his step-father Ken Fields.

Rick was born, October 20, 1963 in Watertown, the son of Melvin and Vivian (O'Brien) Bartlett. He attended Indian River Central School and graduated from Watertown High School. Following graduation, Rick joined the US Air Force, serving as a Nuclear Specialist. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, Rick signed up as a flight medic in the ARMY Reserves. Rick attended Clarkson University and SUNY Canton getting a degree as a Medical Technician, working at Canton-Potsdam Hospital and at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center. Later, he became a deputy for the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, retiring due to injury. On October 1, 1988, Rick married Sandra Butler-Miller at the Canton United Methodist Church and later at St. Mary's Church.

Rick was a past member of Canton Fire and Rescue where he was a Level III Critical Care EMT, he enjoyed wood working, Guinness and history, and he was an avid reader. Rick was a fan of the Miami Dolphins, a communicant of St. Mary's Church, he loved helping people, serving his country, the military and his family, especially time spent with Josh.
