Richard F. Morrow

Richard F. Morrow, 69, of Canton, NY died tragically Monday night, December 23, 2013. He was born November 13, 1944 in Alexandria Bay, NY to Kermet Morrow and Louise Fallon Morrow. He was educated in Canton schools, graduated from St. Lawrence University and attended SUNY Buffalo pursuing a graduate degree. He received an M.A. from SUNY Potsdam. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his return from the service, he lived in Canton and taught mathematics at Norwood/Norfolk School for ten years. For many years Dick had been employed by the Best Western Plus University Inn in Canton where he was the night auditor and was highly revered by co-workers. Recently he purchased the Meadows Restaurant in Canton and had been managing that, as well as working at the Best Western.
Richard was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Canton where he served as the Treasurer, and also was Chairman of the Social Justice Committee and the Blood Drive. Most recently, he was Chairman of the Church and Community Program, a social outreach program serving the needy of St. Lawrence County.
Dick was a lifelong environmentalist and an avid bicyclist. He was known in the community for his caring and generous nature. He loved spending time with his family and often included friends in many family gatherings. He will always be remembered for his kind heart and love of playing games (Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit, particularly) and participation in family songfests.
He is survived by his brother, Garry (Chris) Morrow of Saratoga Springs, NY; his sister, Marilyn Morrow Lindy of Schenectady, NY and her partner, Dan DeMicco of Albany, NY; his nieces, Cindy Deukmejian of Los Angeles, CA, and Kate (Fred) Hartman of Boston, MA; his nephews, Shawn Morrow of Huntersville, NC, Josh (Nicole) Lindy of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Jeff (Gwen Taylor) Lindy of Brooklyn, NY, as well as several grand nieces and nephews. Dick was married to Diane Colbert for nine years, and they remained supportive of each other and their families.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3 ½ East Main Street, Canton, NY. A reception will follow the service. Internment will occur in the spring. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider contributions in Dick's memory to the Church and Community Program in care of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Canton.
