Richard "Dick" Douglas Cole

October 21, 1938 — October 15, 2024

Russell, New York

Richard "Dick" Douglas Cole, 85, of Russell passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at the Massena Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Dick was born October 21, 1938 in Ogdensburg, the son of Paul and Pearl (Chevier) Cole. Unfortunately his twin did not survive. Dick's mother died when he was just a child and he was raised at the former United Helpers Orphanage in Ogdensburg. He entered the United States Army, served five years and was honorably discharged.

Dick married Donalda Forsythe, together they had three boys, however the marriage ended in divorce. Later he married Debra Cole and had a son and daughter, but the marriage ended in divorce as well. On February 20, 1993, Dick was married to his beloved Ada O'Neill-Warner.

Dick was employed by Reynold's Metals in Massena for 32 years, retiring in 2000. His retirement found him in his workshop doing woodworking, making many birdhouses, snowmen and many other items. He was an excellent bowler and bowled for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and boating on the St. Lawrence River, he was the best Walleye fisherman. (Don't argue, you didn't have to eat them.)

Dick enjoyed snowmobiling with Ada. Many trips to and camping on Croil Island. He was a member of the Massena Amvets Post, the Norfolk American Legion and the Boondockers Snowmobile Club.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Ada Cole, sons Donald, David, Douglas and Brandon Cole, daughter Tiffany; brothers Paul and Robert Cole and sisters Diane Baxter and Nancy Cole. Also surviving are a step-son Shawn Warner and step-daughters Susan Warner and Shelley Warner-Levison.
