Memorial service for Richard "Dick" Christy, 75, of Canton, will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the O'Leary Funeral Home; 5821 US Highway 11, Canton, with Lay Minister Martha Helmer, officiating. Dick died on Friday, July 11, 2014 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Dick is survived by two sons, Raymond "Stanley" Christy of Schenectady, NY; Kevin Bradley and wife Jill of Myrtle Beach and by daughter, Holly Stone and husband James of Canton; by three grandchildren James Stone II and Bradley Stone, both of Canton and Johna Bradley of Myrtle Beach and by a great-granddaughter, Skylar Stone of Canton.
Dick is predeceased by two brothers, Jack and William Christy.
Dick was born, October 13, 1938 in Potsdam, the son of the late N. Stanley and Gladys Mae (Emmons) Christy. He served a term in the US Marines; a marriage to Irene E. Gillette ended in divorce. On February 21, 1973 at Brick Chapel Church, Dick married Betty I. Hanley. Betty predeceased him on February 3 of this year. Early on, Dick drove milk truck for Bill Lawrence; he had a body shop in an old cow barn prior to purchasing property on the Canton-Pyrites Road. Later Dick started RC Auto Appraisals, Richard S. Christy Realty and Joe Indian Lake Contractors, which all later became RichBett Inc. Dick wrote the column, "In this Corner" for the St. Lawrence Plaindealer and most currently was the owner of Betty's Garden Park on County Route 27.
Dick was one of the first bow hunting instructors in the area; he was Lieutenant Governor of the Kiwanis Club, past member of the Canton Men's Bowling League at Gray Lanes, member of the 4 of Club's card group and always had a story to tell. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling, especially the many cruises he and Betty took.
