Funeral service for Pauline M. McMartin, 80, of Canton will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1:00pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Highway 11, Canton, with Rev. William Hart, officiating. Burial will be in the Brick Chapel Cemetery. Pauline died on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief stay.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 10am until the time of the service on Saturday. Contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley or to a charity of one's choice.
Surviving Pauline are four sons, Neale and Dannette Hance of Winthrop; Steven Hance of Ogdensburg; Lauris and Kathy McMartin of Citra, FL and David and Judy McMartin of Canton; three daughters, Ruby and Verde Snyder of Canton; Penny and Joseph Rutherford of Madrid and Tammy and David Allen of Lisbon. Also surviving are three brothers, James Hance of Morley; Merton Hance of Ogdensburg; Berton Hance of Potsdam; four sisters, Emily Burcume of Canton; Judith Chenail of Fairfield, FL; Barbara and Lyle Planty of Utica and Roselda and Andre LaDuc of Canada and several grand and great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by a brother Silas Hance; by three sisters, Maribelle Locke, Elsie Poirier and Agnes Savage and by a grandson Silas A. Hance.
Pauline was born December 27, 1931 in DeKalb, the daughter of the late Benjamin E. and Rose M. (Davis) Hance. She attended Knox-Memorial Central in Russell. On November 9, 1948 in DeKalb, she married Clinton McMartin; he predeceased her January 9, 1989. Pauline worked for the Canton Diner for a few years and also cleaning houses for a short time.
She enjoyed reading and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
