Mass of Christian Burial for Paul F. Gallagher, 92, of Potsdam, will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary's Church, Potsdam with Msgr. Aucoin, celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Potsdam. Paul passed away peacefully, while in the company of family, on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the St. Joseph's Nursing Home, Ogdensburg.
There will be no public calling hours. Arrangements are under the care of the O'Leary Funeral Service, Canton. Contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Hwy 11; Potsdam, NY 13676.
Surviving Paul are two sons, Joseph Gallagher and wife Kathy of Potsdam; Anthony Gallagher of Chicago; IL; a daughter, Joan Taylor of Potsdam; nine grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Singer and husband John of Sparks, NV and Marie Mackie and husband Jim of Clermont, FL.
He is predeceased by a daughter Carol; an infant daughter, Mary; three brothers; James, William and Donald "Bunky" Gallagher; two sisters, Irene Parr and Anne Dodds and by a son-in-law, Elmer F. Taylor, Jr.
Paul was born, August 21, 1922 in Potsdam, the son of the late, William and Gladys (Delisle) Gallagher. He graduated from Potsdam High School in 1940. On August 28, 1943 he married Lena Bronson at the St. Mary's Rectory in Potsdam. Mrs. Gallagher predeceased him on February 8, 2008.
Paul worked for 30 years at Kinney Drugs Downtown Store on Market Street Potsdam, retiring in 1984. Following retirement he mowed lawns and tended gardens for many people throughout Potsdam until the age of 83.
