Patricia H. Carson

d. July 7, 2012

Patricia Harrington Carson, 84, was called to heaven on July 7, 2012. Patricia was born on March 16, 1928, the daughter of the late Michael and Mable (LaFay) Harrington. The Harrington's owned and operated The Harrington Hotel where Patricia was born and where her family lived for many years.
Patricia lived in Canton her whole life, attending St. Mary's School, Canton High School, and State University of New York in Potsdam. Growing up Patricia loved figure skating, summer theatre, and most of all, dance. She married Barry Andrew Carson, from Shaker Heights, Ohio, in September 1950.
Patricia was a realtor for many years with Fournier Real Estate and late with Segar Real Estate, having several years of million dollar sales.
Patricia was an active member of the St. Lawrence County Historical Association, serving on the publications committee and as a trustee or many years. Patricia was instrumental in putting together "Past Forgetting" - a Musical Revue commemorating the WW II years.
Patricia was fascinated by the past. In later years, she tapped her writing talent to share her knowledge of Canton's History with others. She wrote and published numerous articles for The Quarterly, which portrayed a way of life "past forgetting". Perhaps Patricia's greatest contribution toward preserving the area's history was the publications of Images of America: St. Lawrence County Portraits, which she wrote with E. Anne Mazzotta.
Patricia is survived by her husband Barry Carson Sr.; her children, Barry Carson Jr. and wife Eve Stoddard; Carol Carson Leinhart; her five grandchildren, Brigid Fisk and husband Justin, Abbe Carson, Katerina Leinhart, Braeden Leinhart and Traesa Leinhart; her niece Martha MacKenzie and nephew Michael MacKenzie; and her great-granddaughter to be.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 10 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Hwy 11; Canton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 11 at 12:00pm at St. Mary's Church, Canton with Rev. Doug Lucia, celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Potsdam.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the St. Lawrence County Historical Association or to the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Patricia will be remembered for her huge heart. She welcomed everyone into her life with open arms, and she made everyone feel special.
