Nelson Joseph Fadden, 87 of Morley died in the company of family on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief stay.
Nelson was born March 3, 1939 in Potsdam to the late Nelson Harold and Mary Corrine (Bartman) Fadden. He was a 1958 graduate of Canton High School where he was a standout Hockey and Football player. On June 14, 1959, Nelson married Joan Audrey Munson at St. Mary’s Church in Canton.
Nelson started his career with the Canton Village Police and later became a New York State Trooper, retiring as investigator in 1987 after 25 years of service. Following retirement, Nelson attended and graduated from Canton ATC receiving an electrical degree. During such time, he began working with Auggie Weiss Electric and also driving bus for Canton Central School, retiring once again after several years.
Nelson was a member of the Adirondack 46ers, climbing all the high peaks and then some. You could see his smiling face delivering muffins and donuts to medical offices between Potsdam and Canton. He would bike 50+ miles weekly making stops to visit friends along the way. Nelson had many interest, including kayaking, canoeing, fishing, photography, calligraphy, painting barn quilts, competition shooting and baking and delivering bread. He was also a member of the Police Benevolent Association.
Nelson is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Joan Fadden of Morley, children Michael (Krystyna) Fadden of Monroe, ME, Angela (Robert) Guyette of Hannawa Falls, Roger (Jennifer) Fadden of Canton and Marianne (Dan) Bartlett of Clay, NY; grandchildren Krysia and Ryan (Janine) Fadden, Christopher (Amanda), Peter (Kylie) and Timothy (Kayla) Guyette, Parker and Samuel Fadden and Ava, Madison, Connor and Will; great-grandchildren Harper Williamson, Graeme and Owen Guyette, Chase, Ryleigh and Camden Guyette, Gavin and Grant Guyette. Also surviving are a brother-in-law Robert Munson, sister-in-law Lois (Gordon) Compeau and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents Nelson and Mary, he was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Everett and Louise Munson, brothers David John and Sandra (Liscum) Fadden and Peter Jay and Karen (Edwards) Fadden and a sister-in-law Bonnie Munson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, New York 13057 or to the Morley Branch Library, 7230 County Rd 27, Canton, New York 13617.
Services will be held privately.
