Nancy M. Gilbo

There will be a gathering of family and friends for Nancy M. Gilbo, 72, of Canton on Saturday July 16, 2011 at 12:00pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Park Street, Canton. Mrs. Gilbo passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus.
Calling hours will be from 10:00am until 12:00pm. Contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
Surviving Nancy are two sons, Richard and Tammy Laraby and Ronald Gilbo, all of Canton; a daughter, Robin and Andrew Backus of Canton; four grandchildren, Andrew and Becky Backus and Samantha and Katie Gilbo; a brother James and Shirley Newvine of Carthage and a sister Joan and Vincent Casario of Mexico, NY, a step-son Lyle and Jeanette Gilbo and a step-daughter Sonya and Leon Waltz, and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Robert Laraby and by two sisters, Theresa Perry and Elizabeth Heffler.
Nancy was born in Carthage on August 8, 1938, daughter of the late George and Gertrude (Barnhart) Laraby. Nancy attended Carthage Schools. She married Lloyd Gilbo on November 11, 1968 at the Canton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wells, officiating. Mr. Gilbo passed away on January 31, 2009. She worked for the Tick-Tock, Canton-Potsdam Hospital and later for United Helpers, retiring as housekeeping supervisor.
Nancy was an associate member of the Canton VFW. She enjoyed gardening and camping.
