Nadine Nelson Jennings, 80, of Canton died Thursday, December 19, 2024, surrounded by family at St. Joseph's Home in Ogdensburg after a short stay.
Nadine was born Margaret Louise Coonradt September 23, 1944, in Troy, New York, and was adopted by William L. and Esther (Coonley) Nelson. Survivors include her devoted husband, Robert E. Jennings, her two children, Robert H. Jennings of Westbrook, Maine and Cynthia J. Bashore of Lutherville, Maryland, and two grandchildren, Joshua and Peter Bashore. Nadine was predeceased by her infant daughter, Pamela Beth Jennings.
Nadine was a graduate of Emma Willard School, SUNY Potsdam, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Linguistics. She greatly enjoyed her teaching career at Mater Dei College and SUNY Canton, especially the times she was able to learn from members of Akwesasne. Nadine liked to sail but enjoyed all types of watercraft.
Nadine's family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the dedicated and compassionate medical and nursing care as well as the support of friends and colleagues that she received over many years.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton. No services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center, 5 Lyon Place, Ogdensburg, NY, 13669.
