Funeral service for Morris L. Newman, 89, of Canton, will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the O'Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Hwy 11; Canton, with Pastor Michael Terrell, officiating. Morris died on Monday, March 30, 2015 while at home.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 4-7 PM at the O'Leary Funeral Home. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Canton Central Booster Club.
Morris is survived by two sons; Lyle Newman of Canton and Paul Newman and wife Kirstin of Canton; by two daughters, Sue Blackburn and husband Larry of Norfolk and Betsy Recker and husband Bill of Rensselaer Falls; by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by a grandson Jesse Lyle Newman and by two brothers, Gordon and Elmer Newman.
Morris was born March 18, 1926 in DeKalb, the son of the late William and Erma (McHeffy) Newman. He graduated from Rensselaer Falls School. Morris worked trucking Race Horses for John Seymour and at the Sale Barn in DeKalb and later operated a family farm. He married Fannie Jean Murphy, she predeceased him in November 2011. Morris was an avid Canton Central Sports Fan, enjoyed gardening, bird watching and his fish pond. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
