Funeral service for Minnie Childs Pike, 86, of Canton, will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 11:00am at the Kendrew United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Nichols and Lay Minister Margaret Hance, co-officiating. Spring interment will be in the Kendrew Cemetery. Minnie died on Tuesday, February 07, 2012 at the United Helpers Nursing Home Ogdensburg.
Friends may call at the O'Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Hwy 11; Canton on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Kendrew United Methodist Church, C/O Shelly Ahlfeld, 154 Judson Street Rd; Canton, NY 13617.
Surviving Minnie are a son Ronald and wife Jane Pike of Canton; a daughter Shirley and husband Roger Murdie of Canton; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a brother Merlin and wife Jean Childs of Rensselaer Falls; two sisters, Bette Simmons of Lisbon and Helen and husband Donald Houck of Canastota, NY.
She is predeceased by a brother Stanley Childs and a sister Laura Austin.
Minnie was born on April 10, 1925 in Dekalb, the daughter of the late Ralph and Beatrice (Stone) Childs. She attended Rensselaer Falls School and in 1942 graduated from OFA in Ogdensburg. On September 12, 1944 she married Alwyn Pike at the Kendrew United Methodist Church with Rev. Roger Marmon, officiating.
Minnie was a 60+ year member of the Kendrew Grange #891, member of the Kendrew United Methodist Ladies Aide and enjoyed knitting and quilting.
