The funeral for Michael M. Mace, age 67, of Canton will be held at the O'Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Highway 11, Canton on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow at Brick Chapel Cemetery, Canton.  Calling hours will be held from 3pm - 7pm on Thursday, December 11th at O'Leary Funeral Home.  Mike passed away December 9, 2014.

Born April 5th, 1947 in Canton, NY, son of the late Frank and Pauline (Moore) Mace, Mike graduated from Canton High School in 1965.  He married Karel Ames of Canton on October 9, 1971 at St. Mary's Church, Canton.  Mike enjoyed a lifetime career at Mace Motors where he was fortunate to work alongside his father, his brother Pat, and many friends.  As a local businessman, Mike took pride in all things "Canton."  He loved supporting local athletics, businesses, schools, and the people of the North Country.

His loving survivors include: his wife Karel; son Brian and Deborah (Peebles) Mace of Dayton, OH and their children Olivia and Owen; daughter Jodi of Somerville, MA; two brothers; Rick and Christine (Gauthier) Mace of Colton, NY; Pat and Helen (Huntley) Mace of Canton, NY; Aunts Ethel Mace of Canton and Flora Smith of Valparaiso, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

As a Golden Bear, Mike proudly participated on the football, basketball, baseball and track teams.  Later, his interests included bowling, snowmobiling, horseshoes, hunting, card games, classic car collecting, traveling, and golf.  He was a long time member and past president of the Inlet-Outing Club; Seaway Cruisers Classic Car Club Inc; Canton Club; Canton Sportsman Club; St. Lawrence County Snowmobile Club, and auxiliary member of the Canton VFW Post 1231.  While spending winters in Florida he joined the national American Cribbage Congress - Club 147 Port Charlotte.  One of his favorite pastimes was enjoying summers at the family's camp on Higley, where he leaves his mark in many ways but also as the standing Whist Champion of 2014 (with his brother Rick as a partner).  Mike never met a stranger that he could not strike up a long conversation with and his stories will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's School, 2 Powers Street; Canton, New York 13617 or Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
