Mary E. (Majer) Austin

Funeral service for Mary E. Austin, 48, of Canton will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 6:00 PM at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton with Rev. Douglas J. Lucia, officiating. Mary passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 while at home surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, from 4:00 PM until the time of the service. Contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley; 6805 US Highway 11; Potsdam, NY 13676.
Mary was born, May 3, 1967 in Massena, the daughter of John and Joan (Brothers) Majer. She attended St. Mary's School till the sixth grade and graduated from Canton High School in 1985. Mary worked in the Owen D. Young Library at St. Lawrence University for 20+ years. On July 8, 1995 she married Richard C. Austin. Mary was an avid knitter and crafter, she loved to read and spend time with her family. Mary was a member of the American Library Association.
She is survived by her husband Richard Austin, daughter Hannah Austin and son Danny Austin, all of Canton. By her mother, Joan Majer of Florida; by a brother Stephen Majer of Canton and sister, Lori Tiernan of Canton, by a nephew, Fisher Tiernan and by several aunt, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by her father, John Majer.
