Memorial service for Mary B. Bonno, 91, of Lisbon, will be held at a later time in the spring. Mary died on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus where she had been a resident since 2014. Contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
Mary is survived by five sons, William Bonno of Nevada; Gilbert Bonno and wife Karen of Grand Blank, MI; Earl Bonno and wife Jessie of Stockholm; Stephen Bonno and wife Connie of Lisbon and August Bonno and wife Lisa of Florida; by a daughter Lori Raymond and husband Rob of Canton and by several grand, great-grand and great-great Grandchildren.
She is predeceased by all her siblings, William, August, John, Charles, Rosella, Anne, Isabelle and Jean.
Mary was born, December 3, 1923 in Royal Oak, Michigan, the daughter of the late William J. and Effie Belle (Ingalls) Brandt. She graduated from Royal Oak Schools and from Ogdensburg Business School. She married Gilbert Bonno in 1941, he was a paratrooper during WWII and killed in Italy in 1944. On September 1, 1947, she married Earl F. Bonno. He predeceased her in 2008.
Mary worked for the St. Lawrence National Bank and for EJ Noble Hospital and later was the Assistant Town Clerk in Canton. As well as raising her own six children, Mary and Earl were foster parents for 30 + years, caring for 62 foster children.
Mary enjoyed sewing and cooking and spending time with family, especially her children and grandchildren. Mary was a communicant of Sts. Phillips and James Church in Lisbon, she was a member of the St. Lawrence Cooperative Extension 4H Council and longtime 4H adviser.
