Funeral service for Mabel E. Baxter, 67, of Canton, will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Hermon United Methodist Church with Rev. James Barnes, officiating. Burial will follow in the Hermon Cemetery. Mabel passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2014, while in the company of family at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Friends may call at the O'Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Hwy 11; Canton on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.
Mabel was born November 11, 1946 in Canton, the daughter of the late Keith and Marjorie (Brooks) Perry. She attended Brick Chapel School and graduated from Canton High School. On October 30, 1971, she married Richard Baxter. Mr. Baxter predeceased her in 2001.
Early on Mabel worked for Gray Lanes Bowling Alley and for various Department Stores, including Kaplan's and Ames. Later she worked for St. Lawrence NYSARC, where she retired from the accounting department. Mabel enjoyed camping, doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku, attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events, she was a NY Yankees fan and family was most important to her.
Surviving Mabel are two sons, Ritchie Baxter and Ryan Baxter and a daughter, Sheila Cleveland and husband Brian, all of Hermon; four grandchildren, Katelyn Trombley; Alexa Cleveland; Lilah Anson and Luke Baxter, as well as two great-grandchildren, Kameron Trombley and Karson Nicholas; several nieces and nephews and "sis", her cousin Cathy Raycraft-Briggs
Mabel is predeceased by two sisters, Keitha Palmer and Deborah Lawrence.
