Louise DiAne Dixon, an extraordinary musician, educator, and devoted matriarch, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of her sons. She was 91 years old.

Born on December 4, 1934, in Chicago Heights, DiAne was a woman of immense intellect and artistic brilliance. She attended the University of Chicago, where she successfully balanced her dual passions for logic and art, earning a Master’s Degree in Mathematics. However, it was the harp that captured her heart and defined her life's work. Following her graduate studies, she traveled to France to refine her craft under the tutelage of the legendary harpist and composer, Madame Henriette Renié.

Upon returning to the United States, DiAne’s talent launched her into the elite tier of classical performance. She graced the stages of the Chicago Symphony, the New Orleans Philharmonic, and the Boston Pops under the direction of Arthur Fiedler. Her versatility later took her to New York City, where she performed with the New York Philharmonic under the legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein. Later she performed on Broadway alongside icons including Angela Lansbury and Barbara Streisand.

In the early 1970s, DiAne brought her talents to the vibrant entertainment scene of Las Vegas. As a premier stage and studio musician, she shared the spotlight and backed some of the era's biggest stars, including Elvis Presley, Petula Clark, Steve and Eydie, the Smothers Brothers, and Debbie Reynolds.

In 1977, DiAne traded the neon lights of Vegas for the quiet beauty of Northern New York, relocating her family to a beautiful 92-acre farm in Russell. Alongside her husband, Garth Dixon, and their two sons, Brian and Robert, they established a vibrant homestead. Though her surroundings changed, her musical passion never waned. She lent her talents to Music Theater North and shared her deep expertise with the next generation of musicians as an adjunct harpist at the Crane School of Music.

Beyond her stellar musical legacy, DiAne was known for her profound love of animals. She loved horseback riding and offered safe haven to several She was a familiar and heartwarming presence in the local community alongside her beloved Poodles, Shadow and Deja Vu. As certified therapy dogs, they brought immense joy, comfort, and smiles to countless individuals across the region. DiAne’s life was one of great passion, devotion, and grace.

She is survived by her devoted sons and their families: Robert and his wife Deborah, and Brian and his wife Kristen. She also leaves behind a rich legacy through her five cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Melody, Finn, Hannah, and Danny; and her two precious great-grandchildren, Quinn and Natalia. She was predeceased by her husband, Garth Dixon.

Arrangements are through the O’Leary Funeral Home in Canton. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family plans to hold a private celebration of life at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor DiAne's memory and her lifelong love for animals are invited to make a memorial gift in her name to their local SPCA.
