October 16th, 1964 – June 20th, 2026
Lawrence Keith Tyler, Born Lawrence Rolland Gillett, Age 61, of 3995 County Road 17; Old DeKalb, NY 13630, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 20th, 2026 at his home in the pit hole sanctuary by the ponds.
Larry is survived by: his son Christopher M. Tyler; five of six brothers, Carl Alden Gillett Jr. and James Frank Gillett both of Tucson, Arizona; Alden C. Gillett address unknown;
Darrick W. Gillett of Syracuse, NY; and Girard "Gary" Ross Gillett of Rensselaer Falls, NY; along with many nieces and nephews, including Gary Ross Gillett of Ogdensburg, NY; and his sister Angel Mae Gillett of Massena, NY; and Larry's second wife Candice "Candy" Anne Petrie of Heuvelton, NY their marriage ended in divorce.
Larry was born on Friday, October 16th, 1964 at the old Canton Hospital in Canton, NY. He is predeceased by an infant son, Joshua Tyler (1989), his biological parents Carl Alden Gillett Sr. (1993) and Nellie Sadie Johnson Gillett (2002), his adoptive parents Keith A. Tyler (2015) and Ilene M. Mayhew Tyler (2002). Also, a biological baby brother who passed away in the hospital shortly after birth (1974) and his first wife Kathy (Kuca) Tyler (2023) their marriage ended in divorce.
Larry graduated from Gouverneur High School and BOCES Southwest Tech Welding Class in Fowler, plus he was a Future Farmer's of America (FFA) Member. Larry was an outdoorsman who loved listening to music; making Adirondack Bentwood Chairs from Swamp Willow trees; Gardening; and going Camping, Canoeing, Kayaking, Hiking, Fishing, Hunting, Shooting, and Trapping with mother nature in the great outdoors of God's Church.
Larry grew up a farm boy on Keith Tyler's Butternut Ridge Dairy Farm and Maple Syrup Supply in North Gouverneur, NY and he also worked as a farm hand and milker for different farmers in that area through his early years; He worked as a heavy equipment and big truck mechanic and welder in North Gouverneur and in Watertown, NY; He worked at a Saab Dealership in Watertown, NY; He worked as a Carpenter in Virginia; He worked skinning furs at Kennedys Fur Shop in North Gouverneur, NY; in 1995 He became the operator of his adopted father Keith Tyler's Butternut Ridge Dairy Farm and Maple Syrup Supply in North Gouverneur, NY; He worked as an Arborist for Tamarack Tree Service in Canton, NY during and after the Ice Storm of '98; He worked as an Arborist Tree Climber and Landscaper on the St. Lawrence River for Metcalfe Landscaping and Tree Service in Alexandria Bay, NY.
While working as a Carpenter in Virginia in 1988 the outside thigh of Larry's right leg was seriously injured by a circular saw because the company he worked for had all the blade guards wired back open on all of their saws and he had to be stitched, stapled, and bandaged up spending over a week in the hospital before being released then moving back home to North Gouverneur where a few weeks later he was in a multi car accident on icy roads that shattered a vertebra in his neck, then three months later his car was hit by a fuel truck on icy roads and he broke another vertebra in his neck, along with his left: hip, leg, ankle, and foot. In 2003 he was in a serious car accident being hit head on receiving a major head injury causing narcolepsy and a seizure disorder removing his driver’s license and rendering him disabled, which placed him at his final job employed by God in the pit hole sanctuary by the ponds to counsel, help and guide the spirits of God's broken lost misfit wayward children...
A graveside service for Larry will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 3:00 pm at the Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.
