Laura M. Durham

Funeral service for Laura M. Durham, 85, of Hayesville, NC and formerly of Russell, NY will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 2:00pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Park Street; Canton with Rev. William Hart, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Clare. Mrs. Durham passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2001 at the Murphy Medical Center, Murphy, NC.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00pm until the time of the service at 2:00pm.
Surviving Laura are a son Jack Durham and wife Jennie, Hayesville, NC; grandchildren, Julie Durham-Defee, Jodi Durham and Jessica Peters and Andrew Chevier; great-grandchildren, Will and KayLee Defee and Jenna Durham; and a sister Lois Sandberg and husband Richard of North Bend, OR.
A daughter Amy Chevier , brothers Clyde Dennis and Darrell Chase and a step-sister Eva Resch predecease her.
Laura was born on September 5, 1925 in Russell, the daughter of the late Clyde and Myrtle (McKee) Chase. She graduated in 1943 from Knox-Memorial in Russell. She worked for the US Army at Lederly Labs, Pearl River, NY and for the Post Office in Russell for several years, retiring in May 1987. On September 9, 1950, she married Clifford Durham in Waddington with Albert Budd, officiating.
For the last seven years, Laura has lived in North Carolina with her son and has been able to enjoy her grand and great-grandchildren.
