Joseph C. Wood, 79, of Canton died on Thursday, June 11, 2026 surround by loved ones at the Westchester Medical Center, Tarrytown, New York, where he had been a patient for a few days.

Joe was born August 22, 1946 in Canton, Joe was the son of the late Kenneth and Margaret (Briggs) Wood. He graduated from Canton High School before proudly enlisting in the United States Army. Joe served his country with honor, retiring after 22 years of military service.

Following his retirement from the Army, Joe lived in Atlanta for a short time, Joe worked as a truck driver for Yellow Freight out of Ohio. Upon returning to New York he was employed by Atlantic Testing Laboratories, and later joined Canton-Potsdam Hospital in Environmental Services, where dedicated another 15 years as supervisor.

Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his extended family on the St. Lawrence River. He especially cherished spending time with his longtime companion, Bonnie Aldous and valued the friendships of his close friends Howard Sanderson and Gerald “Spike” Hurlburt.

In addition to Bonnie, Joe is survived by daughters Patricia, Angela and Katherine of Ohio and a son, Steven Wood of California, Bonnie’s boys Kevin and Kenneth Aldous, several grandchildren, a brother Robert Wood and Arieana (Baby Girl) St. Andrews.

Joe was predeceased by his parents and a brother James Wood.
