Funeral service for Joan M. McDonald, 74, of DeKalb, will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton with John Frary, officiating. Joan died on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at United Helpers Maplewood Campus.

Calling hours will be Tuesday also, from 12 noon until the time of the service. Contributions in her memory may be made to the United Helpers Maplewood activity Fund; 205 State Street Road; Canton, NY 13617 or to the DeKalb Volunteer Fire Department, 4323 US Hwy 11; DeKalb Jct; NY 13630 or to a charity of one's choice.

Joan was born on December 16, 1941 in Colton, the daughter of the late, Homer and Carrie Coller. She graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central School and continued her studies at the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital School of Nursing in Ogdensburg. On May 18, 1963, she married Allan J. McDonald at the St. Paul's Church in Pyrties. She worked at Potsdam Hospital, Gillette's Nursing Home, Edson J. Martin Wholesale, Coakley's Hardware as well as private duty nursing. Joan was also co-owner of The Junction Café in DeKalb from May 1994 to October 2001.

Joan is survived by her husband, Al; by her daughter, Cynthia (Ed) Foster of West Potsdam and by grandson, Jordan Foster of Jacksonville, NC.

Joan is predeceased by a sister, Doris (Harold) Vaughan, and by brother's, Homer (Judy) and Everette Coller.

Joan loved her dogs and Christmas and spending time with her family.
