Jean H. (Dashnaw) Smith

Jean H. Smith, 73, of Russell died on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where she was in the company of her children, Mark and Melissa.

Jean was born December 19, 1946 and was raised by Gerald and Helen Smith. She graduated from Knox-Memorial Central School in Russell. Jean was a homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, baking, dancing, playing cards and singing karaoke, but most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Jean is survived by two children, Mark Smith and Melissa Durham, both of Russell; seven grandchildren, Ashley and Kristopher Matthie, Trey and Destiny Durham, Michael, Marissa and Christina Smith, seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Martha Gray.

Jean is predeceased by her birth parents, Joe and Hattie Dashnaw, her adoptive parents, Gerald and Helen Smith as well as 14 siblings.

A memorial service for Jean will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton. Calling hours will be held on Saturday as well from 12:00 pm until the time of the service.
