Irene I. (Law) Mitchell

Graveside service for Irene I. Mitchell, 69, of Potsdam will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 3:00PM at the Beech Plains Cemetery with Lay Pastor Martha Helmer, officiating. Irene died on Friday, June 12, 2015 at home.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 15, from noon to 2:00PM at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton.
Irene is survived by three daughters, Brenda Fetterly; Rashele Mitchell (Matt Griffin); Pamela Foster (John Finazzo); by two sons, William (Wendy) Bringgs and Steven Briggs, all of Potsdam, by 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brothers, Steven (Caroll) Law and two sisters, Evelyn (Delbert) Merrill and Barb (Phil) Witherell all of Syracuse and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Irene was born February 15, 1946 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Nelson R. and Harriet (VanBrocklin) Law. She attended Potsdam Central School. On, October 24, 1964 she married Laurence W. Mitchell, the couple was separated and he predeceased her on May 5, 1999. Irene worked for Pearls Department Store, Meals on Wheels, and Ames Department Store until she retired. Irene loved to cook, genealogy, she was a talented cake decorator, artist, crafter, seamstress and wood carver. She loved her bible, playing cards, Yahtzee, Bingo and doing puzzles. She enjoyed her vegetable and flower garden, and nature, especially birds and deer. Most of all Irene loved her children and especially her grandchildren and her mother Harriet, whom just passed on June 1, 2015.
