Funeral services for Henry W. Wilson, 88, of Canton will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 12:00pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Joe Jacowitz, officiating. Burial will be in Crary Mills Cemetery on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2:00pm. Mr. Wilson passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at his home under the care of his family.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00am until the time of the service on Saturday. Donation in his memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley or to the American Cancer Society.
Surviving Mr. Wilson are his wife Verna of Canton; sons Michael Wilson of Austin, Arkansas; Henry Wilson of Durhamville, NY; Patrick Wilson of Oneida, NY; James Wilson of Chazy, NY; Ross Wilson and wife Tammy of Canton; daughter Arlene and husband Frederick Mitchell of Moira, NY; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; a brother Charles Wilson of Massena; by step-children Benjamin Smith and companion Michelle Lasher of Canton; Robert Smith and companion Nancy Wright of Potsdam; Larry Smith of Norwood; Stevie Smith and wife Monica of Cortland; Linda Parow and husband Terry of Lake Okeechobee, FL; Sherry and Joseph Jacowitz of California, 17 step-grandchildren and several great and great-great step grandchildren.
Henry is predeceased by a brother David Wilson and by two sisters Catherine LaPage and Margaret MacDonald.
Henry was born March 16, 1922 in Fort Covington, NY, the son of the late David E and Eva (Bouissey) Wilson. He attended Westville Schools and joined the United States ARMY serving in Korea and Okinawa during WWII. Mr. Wilson worked for ALCOA in Massena as a laborer for 25+ years and for several construction companies including Danny Pharo of Malone. He married Martha O'Jida ; who predeceased him on December 21, 1974; he later married Verna Mae O'Shaughnessy on May 1, 1985 in Canton, by J.P. Harold Griffin.
Henry enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.
