Grace E. Whitman

Grace E. Whitman, 81, of Canton died on Monday, June 30, 2025 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital where she was in the company of family.

Grace was born November 1, 1943 in Canton, a daughter of the late Harold and Lena (Pitts) Coleman. She graduated from Canton High School and worked for the district as a secretary, retiring after 35 dedicated years.

Grace married Ronald J. Whitman on October 26, 1963 at the Grace Episcopal Church, Canton. Together they raised two children, Thomas and Terry. Grace enjoyed fishing and watching her granddaughter Morgan compete in the Junior Carp Tournament, puzzles, snowmobiling and watching deer at the lodge.

Grace is survived by her loving husband Ronald Whitman, son Thomas Whitman, sister Linda (Jim) Smith, grandchildren Morgan, Carlie and Coleman, great-grandchildren Waylon, Nina, Layne and Leah and by nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents Harold and Lena, she was predeceased by her daughter Terry in 2013.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025 at 10:00am at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton. Burial will follow in the White Church Cemetery, Crary Mills. Calling hours for Grace will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Potsdam Animal Shelter, 17 Madrid Avenue; Potsdam, New York or to a charity of one's choice.
