Gilbert L. Crosbie

Funeral service for Gilbert L. (Junior) Crosbie Jr., 78, of Russell and formerly of Watertown will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the O'Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Hwy 11; Canton. Burial will follow in the family plot in Russell. Gilbert died on Friday, May 30, 2014 while at home under the care of family and Hospice and Palliative Care.
Friends may call at the O'Leary Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 3 from 1-3 PM and 6-8 PM. Contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Hwy 11; Potsdam, New York 13676.
Surviving Gilbert are sons; Steven Crosbie and wife Cindy of Watertown; Kevin Crosbie of Watertown; daughters; Diane White and husband Larry of Russell and Debra Goodfriend and Randy Schultz of Russell; two brothers, Edward Crosbie of AZ and John Crosbie of Croghan and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Gilbert is predeceased by a son Edward Crosbie; brothers, William and Lloyd Crosbie and by sisters, Betty Thomas and Eleanor Eggleston.
Gilbert was born, July 9, 1935 in Bangor, NY; the son of the late Gilbert L. and Mary (Steinberg) Crosbie. He attended Watertown Schools. On April 5, 1957 he married Jean Kalk at the Watertown Church of the Nazarene. Jean predeceased him in 2010. Gilbert worked for the Champion International paper mill in Deferiet, NY retiring in 1997 after 35 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and farming and was a workaholic.
