Funeral services for Frederick J. "Kick" McDonald, 64, of Highland Nursing Home, Massena and formerly of Canton will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 4:00pm at O'Leary Funeral Service in Canton with Rev. Andrew Amyot, Rector of Church of the Visitation, Norfolk, officiating. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Canton, will follow the service. Mr. McDonald passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Highland Nursing Home in Massena where he had been a resident since July of 2001.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2pm until the time of the service. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Highland Nursing Home Resident Activity Fund or to the Pyrites Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving Mr. McDonald are his mother Elizabeth, of Pyrites, a brother Allan and Joan McDonald of Canton, sisters Janet and Jack Coloton of Dekalb Junction, Faye and Michael Foster of Hannawa Falls, and Margaret McDonald of Pyrites, a sister-in-law Betty Dalton, Pierrepont, an aunt Mary jones of Theresa, and several nieces, Nephews and cousins.
His father Leonard "Slim", Sr. and two brothers John and Leonard Jr. predecease him.
Born September 28, 1943 in Pyrites, son of Leonard and Elizabeth (Roberts) McDonald. He attended Knox-Memorial School in Russell. He was employed by the St. Lawrence County Highway Department, leaving due to health. He also helped his father who was a long-time cattle dealer in the area.
Mr. McDonald was a past member of the Pyrites Volunteer Fire Department; he enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, gardening, baseball and was an avid New York Yankees fan.
