Floyd A. Firman

Mass of Christian Burial for Floyd A. Firman, 77, of Canton will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church in Canton, with Rev. Douglas J. Lucia, celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Floyd passed away peacefully at home in the company of family, while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton. Contributions in lieu of flowers, may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley, the Potsdam Humane Society or to St. Mary's Parish, Canton.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Joan of Canton; by three sons, Russell (Colleen) Firman of Fayetteville; Gregory (Kim) Firman of Baldwinsville and Andrew (Jennifer) Firman of Millersville, MD; a daughter, Julie (James) Bailey of Canton; 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, Scott, Emily, Jesse, Grace, Hannah, Zach, James, Eleanor and Sean. Also surviving are a sister, Selma (Dick) Patrick of Hamlin, NY and three nephews.

Floyd was born March 18, 1940 in Potsdam, the son of the late, Floyd and Doreen (Taylor) Firman. He graduated from Canton High School and from the Albany College of Pharmacy. During his tenure in Pharmacy, Floyd worked at Gouverneur Correctional Facility and for Kinney Drugs. On April 15, 1963, he married Joan Pitkin in Schroon Lake, NY. Floyd was a family man who he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed running, spending time on the St. Lawrence River and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
