Fannie Jean Newman

Funeral service for Fannie Jean Newman, 81, of Canton will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 11:00am at the O'Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Hwy 11, Canton with Rev. Thomas Jones, officiating. Jean died on Saturday, November 19, 2011 while at home under the care of family and St. Lawrence Valley Hospice.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
Surviving Jean are her husband Morris of Canton; two sons, Lyle Newman and Paul and Kirstin Newman, all of Canton; two daughters, Sue and Larry Blackburn of Norwood and Betsy and William Recker of Rensselaer Falls; two sisters, Betty Hewitt of Syracuse and Dorothy Abar of Rensselaer Falls and 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A sister Mary Vaughn and a grandson Jessie Newman predecease her.
Jean was born on October 15, 1930 in the town of Oswegatchie, daughter of the late John and Fannie (Barley) Murphy. Jean graduated from Canton Schools and on May 18, 1950, she married Morris Newman in Heuvelton. Jean worked for Clark's grocery and J.J. Newberry Co. but was mainly a homemaker at the farm. She was an avid local sports fan of all north Country sports.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley, Canton Booster Club and PeeWee Sports or to the Jerusalem Cemetery Association.
