Graveside service for Ethel I. Mace, 97, of Canton, will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 11:00 AM at the Fairview Cemetery, Canton, with Associate Pastor Donna Doig, officiating. Ethel died on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus.
Ethel is survived by two sons, Raymond Mace and wife Wanda of Williams, AZ and Richard Mace and wife Patricia of Canton. Also surviving are several grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by both of her siblings, Hilda Reed and Ernest "Buster" Perkins.
Ethel was born, September 1, 1918, in Canton, the daughter of the late Harold and Anna (Paul) Perkins. She attended Canton Schools. On June 27, 1938, she married Reginald Mace, at the Canton United Methodist Church with Pastor Mellville Terwilliger, officiating. Reginald predeceased her in August of 1971. Ethel worked as a waitress at Crump's Restaurant and at the Hotel Harrington. She later worked for Canton Central School in the cafeteria retiring in 1973. She also worked for her husband, Reginald's, businesses, Mace Auction Service and Mace Motors. She operated Ethel's Antiques as well.
Ethel was a member of the Canton United Methodist Church, Canton Senior Citizens Club, Senior Citizens League, and Order of the Eastern Star. She is also a double breast cancer survivor of over 50 years. Ethel enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing, trips to the casino, knitting and crafts, crocheting and ceramics.
