Funeral mass for Elizabeth Mary Roberts McDonald, 96, of Pyrites will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 11:00am at St. Mary's Church in Canton, with Rev. Doulas Lucia, celebrating.Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Canton. Mrs. McDonald passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010 at her home surrounded by family while under the care of St. Lawrence Valley Hospice.
Friends may call at the O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton on Monday, January 25 from 2:30 to 6pm. Contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley; or to St. Paul's Oratory Restoration Fund, c/o St. Mary's Church, Court St, Canton.
Surviving Elizabeth are a son Allan and wife Joan McDonald of Canton; daughters Janet Coloton and husband Jack of Dekalb Junction; Margret McDonald of Pyrites; Faye Foster and husband Michael of Hannawa Falls; a daughter-in-law Betty Dalton of Pierrepont; a sister Mary (Loretta) Jones of Theresa and 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by three sons, John, Leonard Jr. and Frederick McDonald, by brothers George, Alphonse, Frank, Joseph (Lawrence), Edward (Joe) and Rene; by sisters Blanche Corbine, Ruth Rice, and Myrtle McIntyre.
Elizabeth was born June 16, 1913 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late John and Celina (LaVigne) Roberts. She attended Pyrites Schools. She married Leonard McDonald Sr. at St. Mary's church in Canton on July 23, 1932 with Father Hammon celebrating. Mr. McDonald, a well known cattle dealer predeceased her on November 8, 1979. Elizabeth was a cook at the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Canton until her retirement in 1983.
She was a member of the St. Paul's Altar and Rosary Society and past member of the Pyrites Ladies Auxiliary. She was lifelong resident of Pyrites and enjoyed bingo and her family.
