Elias J. Gaurin Sr

Funeral services for Elias J. Gaurin Sr. 70, of Canton, will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 11:00am at the O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Bill Huckle officiating. Burial will follow in Hermon Cemetery. Mr. Gaurin passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, December 28, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
Elias is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gloria; a son Elias Jr and his wife Susan Gaurin of Hermon; three daughters, Lori and husband Bruce Thompson of Canton; Debbie Potvin of North Fort Myers, FL; Hope Cameron and husband Jason of Ogdensburg; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; step father Benjamin McGregor of Federal Way, WA; four brothers, Kenneth of Waterloo; Robert, Gilbert and Norman of Federal Way, WA; four sisters, Maxine Kaus, Marlene Hegwood, Joan Ballard and Denise Koranda of federal Way, WA; and also by many beloved nieces, nephews.
He was predeceased by an infant grandson Hayden M. Gaurin in 1998.
Mr. Gaurin was born in Massena, on January 24, 1939, son of the late Gerald and Beulah (Griffin) Gaurin. Elias attended Pyrites and Canton Schools. He married Gloria Brabaw on November 25, 1960. They moved to Savannah, NY in 1962 where he worked for six years at Jordan Wire Mill. In 1968 he moved back to Canton and joined the laborers Local 322 Labor Union; Massena, NY. In 2008 he received an award for forty years of service. He worked at numerous jobsites throughout the North Country. In 1992 he retired due to ill health.
Elias enjoyed playing cards, shuffle board, and fishing. Elias has a unique sense of humor. He enjoyed the company of his children and grand children.
