Eleanor Ruth Maroney

Eleanor Ruth Sherman Maroney, 93, of Pierrepont died peacefully February 10, 2026 with her family by her side.

Born May 1, 1932 in Canton, to Donald and Marjorie Wilmarth Sherman, she spent her entire life in Canton. She attended Canton schools and a beautician school in Syracuse. At one time she owned and operated a beauty salon on Main Street in Canton.

She married James E. Maroney on January 19, 1953 at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. John Whitaker officiating.

She spent her life beside her husband, operating the family dairy farm on Old Route 11, as well as raising their children. In later years, after selling the farm, she was employed by Allied Federated Cooperative, until her retirement.

She enjoyed gardening, snowmobiling, the company of her family, and especially time spent at the family camp on Clear Pond.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James, as well as her parents.

Eleanor is survived by her children: Frances "Goog" (JJ) Mahany, Colleen (Chuck) Swierad, Donald (Debbie Christy), and Mary (Rick Sprague). She is also survived by her sister, Frances Cheney, as well as several nieces and nephews, three grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

Calling hours for Eleanor will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton in the spring.
