Elaine M. Burnham

Elaine M. Burnham, 86, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton, where she had been a resident since August of 2008.
Elaine was born June 2, 1923 in Pyrites, daughter of the late Mark W. and Violet (Dafoe) Burnham.
Elaine graduated from Canton High School in June 1941. She worked for the Miss Canton Diner for several years then she went to Ogdensburg Business School graduating in June 1960. She then went to work for Art Robinson of Robinsons Farm Equipment as a bookkeeper. Later she worked for the dentist Roy Livingston. After retiring she worked for the office of the aging at the Boy Scout office and the sheriff's office.
Elaine is survived by a brother Fay Burnham and his wife Loretta of Massena, and several nieces and nephews including Terry Latimer of Canton, who has helped her for years.
She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine Oaster in 1992 and Don Oaster in 2006 and her brothers Mark W. Burnham, Jr. in 2003 and William Burnham in 1992.
Elaine was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars from 1964 to 1989. She loved doing all kinds of crafts, the cross word puzzles in the daily paper and was an excellent cook.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 1:00pm at the Fairview Cemetery in Canton.
